Love this so much! I appreciate the thoroughness and how its written so clearly and to the point! Question for you: is there a hit on the electricity bill? what can one expect?

I ask because Im looking to take longer road trips with my senior dog to maximize my time with her, semi van life. I am over sitting in an office within 4 walls under fluorescent lights while she's at home and I have to pay someone to walk her while I'm at work. I'm exploring the possibility of dehydrating food in advance for me. Eating healthy is a concern I have while we are on the road. And it has to be easy prep because I barely cook at home! This weekend we take a 14 hour roadtrip to VT. Im taking her to the Dog Mtn and the Dog Chapel in Johnsbury VT. Thank you both! Anna in Raleigh, NC

Not really — dehydrators have just a fan and heating element, and they operate at low heat. They use much less energy than an oven or freeze dryer. Even when running ours nonstop for a month to prep for long trips, we’ve never even noticed it in our electric bill.
